What to do with all that stuff?

Is your pantry overflowing? Come on I know you have lots of cereal! I would like to encourage you to take all of the things that you do not need or cannot possible use to a local food pantry. In the Charlotte area, I would like to suggest "With Love from Jesus" or "Loaves and Fishes."

You can read more about With love from Jesus here. They are currently in need of the following: instant potatoes, mac and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, oil, cereal, hamburger helper, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, cheese, canned meat (Vienna sausage, spam, treet, salmon, tuna), crackers, flour, sugar just to name the MOST need! Of course they will take any non perishable items.

Loaves and fishes can use nonperishable foods and personal care items. Here is current a list of priority needs. As for the cleaning supplies I am taking mine to the preschool where I work. We always need something to clean the tables with!

See you at the sales!

.55 & .75 q’s out there

SEAFOOD

Downy and Tide are P&G and there are some other products (charmin bounty on sale, but not really great deals so I didn’t list them. This deal may be worth it for a free back pack, buy 4 Tide and 4 Downy and you’ll hit the $31 mark) UPDATE: I went today to do this and ended up making out fairly well, you can use any P&G items and I stumbled across another deal looking for more P& G products:

Herbal Essence shampoo & conditioner 2.50x2= 5-2-3=FREE
$2/2 Bi-Lo q in the Bi-Lo insert today
$3/2 P&G q from 7/6
Incidentally I didn't even get the ebags certificate no catalinas ever printed out. The manager was VERY kind though, he gave me a gas token, a $5 on my next $25 purchase and a $25 gas card, in lieu of the deal. There were other people there getting their catalinas, not sure why mine didn't print.

Deena's Trip

More triple pictures. Here is one from my friend Deena:

She spent $5. WOW!!! WAY TO GO!!!!

Lowes Food Coupon: Another Triple Tip

Just wanted to let you know I stopped by Lowes Foods to get a circular after one of my triple run. Why? You may ask. Because I'm looking desperately for a steal of a deal on Smithfield bacon, but have been unsuccessful thus far. Anyway they have a $5 off $50 and $10 off $100 coupon in their ad, and HT honors competitors coupons.

See you at the sales!

Ooo ya'll are doing great!

My friend Melissa (great name huh) emailed me her pic's too. Check them out:

She spent $2 on one and $49 on the other (but look at all that meat) . WAY TO GO GIRL!!!!

Email me yours and I'll put them on here.

It's official I'm a goober

Well, I always said I wouldn't be one of those people, but I am. Here's a picture of the fruits of my labor of 3 visits today:

In case you can't see (something is wrong with my camera, I must find the book) that's

7 boxes of cereal

6 bags of chips

6 bottles of Windex

4 bottles of shout

3 jar peanut butter

2 jars jelly

4 bottles salsa

8 bottles water

2 pkgs brwn sugar

2 pkgs powder sugar

2 boxes pantyliners

2 pkgs rolls/buns

4 Zone bars

2 pkgs batteries

2 bottles body wash

5 deodorants

stryofoam plates

stryofoam bowls

3 boxes gal size zipper bags

4 toothbrushes

1 Pepsi for my thirsty child (I CAN"T BELIEVE I SPENT 1.39!)

wet ones

Bam cleaner

3 bathroom cleaners

nutrigrain bars

Total spent in those 3 trips $17.60. And I have 2 $5 rebates to send in from this! Total VIC card and coupon savings for these trips: $226.28. I think that is well worth the time spent. I'm not done yet, I'll probably go back tonight as the fine people at HT gave me 4 $10 of $25 coupons.

I big old puffy red heart the Teeter!!! Bless them!

Organizing your coupons

My friend Nancy did a post about her coupon binder and it reminded me I wanted to do a post on organizing coupons.
There are several ways you can do it. You can get an accordion coupon organizer. You can find them at the dollar store or in the dollar bins at Target. I found this one at Promopeddler:

I used to have this type, but when you accumulate a various amount of coupons, you may want to upgrade to the binder which is what I currently have:

OK actually I admit I have two binders, but I'm a tad OCD with coupons! I have one binder for food items, which I primarily take into grocery stores, and I have one binder for non-food that I primarily take into drug stores. Both binders are zippered and this is very important!

You can find binders everywhere since it's back to school time. If you can stand waiting until September you can probably find one on clearance somewhere at a good price. I decided to splurge and picked the one pictured above at Costco for 9.99.

Inside the binder are lots of baseball card holder inserts. You can get these at Wal-Mart or Target near where the baseball cards are sold. It looks something like this once you've set it up:

I have also seen shoe boxes, photo boxes, briefcases, recipe box holders, empty wipes containers, zippered CD cases and tote bags. You can get creative and use what works best for you. You will also need some type of diving system for your container. I use 3 ring hole punched dividers for my binder.

Once you have your container and dividers picked out. You need to come up with a method. I organize by category. Some people organize alphabetically by manufacturer name. For example Kraft, Kellogg's, etc. It is too hard for me to remember who makes what, so I chose to categorically organize.
Here is a list of my categories in my Food Binder:
Baking
Beverages
Bread
Breakfast
Candy
Canned Goods
Cereal
Condiments
Cookies
Crackers
Dairy
Diet
Frozen Foods
International
Meat
Pasta
Produce
Rice
Snacks
Sauces
Spices

Here is a list in my Non-Food binder:
Baby/Child
Bags, Plates, Cups
Batteries
Cleaning Products
Dental
Deodorants
Facial
Feminine Hygiene
Foils Wraps
Hair Products
Laundry
Lotions
Makeup
Medicines
Pantyhose/Misc.
Paper Products
Shaving
Soaps
In my binder I also carry some essentials:

I can't tell you how much of a lifesaver it is to have a pen, calculator (that little pink calculator came from Staples and it is a clip and has a magnet on the back I use it to clip my coupons together while I'm at the store) and a pair of scissors with you in your binder. You never know when you may want to clip a coupon. I like to keep everything in my binder, even uncut coupons so when I have a minute waiting in carpool line or at the Dr's office I can clip or sort through my binder. I keep my binder in my car so I ALWAYS have my coupons.

I also have pockets that are divided for each store. In these I keep my list for that store, the sale ad and my rain checks for that store. I also have a pocket where I can hold any coupon inserts that I haven't cut yet.

You can also pull the coupons you plan to use for that store and put them in the stores folder then when you get to the store all you need is to pull your list and the coupons and you are ready to go.

I would love to hear what you use. Please comment on what works best for you!
See you at the sales!

Know your local Walgreens coupon policy...

I learned a while back during an unfortunate coupon episode that the managers at Walgreens are able to set their own coupon policy. They can decide whether or not to accept Internet coupons. Now of course it matters not that there are Internet coupons totally available from the Walgreens website!!!

I learned that lesson again the hard way when I found so items marked down at Walgreens I don't normally go to. They refused to accept the IP I had. Then get this, they told me to try the Walgreens down the street. Go figure. I did and they took it no problem.

Anyway here are the deals I picked up today:

Huggies Clean team wipes clearanced to 1.99 used $3/2 IP x7/31 (I printed this probably a month ago, not sure where and I can't seem to find it now)

Kotex pads clearanced to 1.79-$1 6/8SS, IP, All You mag = .79, if you are able buy 2 and you will get a $2 catalina good off your next purchase at Walgreens (FYI HT will take these so save it for triples).

Listerine Smart Rinse clearanced to 1.99-$1 4/27RP =.99

Index cards (WAG ad Coupon for 3/1.00)

Sharpies (WAG ad Coupon for 2/1.00)

2 Loreal Vive Hydragloss B1G1F- B1G1F q 7/13SS = FREE (I got the shampoo and conditioner for free)

3-Clorox wipes 2.49 - B2G1F q ( I traded with someone on HCW for this one, don't know where they got it from) and got $2 register reward for next purchase = .99 ea

Rite Guard deodorant 3.99-$1 -$2 ESR= .99

Hebert’s Fully Loaded Chocolate Bars .99-.99 ESR=FREE

Comment on your finds and I'll add them here.

I heard a rumor....

TRIPLE COUPONS @ HT Thursday 7/24-7/26!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get your scissors ready ladies. Now is the time to gather as many .50-.99 face value coupons, from friends, trades, Food Lion, Internet printables.

Since we have so much advance warning you may even want to email your favorite companies to get some sent to you. Another option is to purchase coupons. I usually don't do this myself, but because of the summer, I have only been getting one paper, so I went online this morning and ordered from The Coupon Clippers. They seem to be the only ones I have found that are reasonable for what they charge as a handling fee. They are a Christian, home school family that is just adorable and I feel good about supporting them.

If you Grocery Game they should have a list available for you by 5pm on the day triples start.

You will also want to check the Harris Teeter forum at HCW and the Domestic Goddess forum at Charlotte Mommies.

Leave me a comment on your finds and I will compile a list here. Also if you have a question, leave me a comment and I will get you an answer.

See you at the sales!

Save it for a rainy day

The Teeter ran out of Tide before you could get there to pick it up? Don't fret go to Customer Service and get a rain check.

Rain checks are awesome for so many reasons. Rain checks allow you to purchase the item at some point in the future, possibly months after it was on sale, for the sale price. One of my favorite things to do with rain checks, especially with Harris Teeter, is save them until they have triples. Let's take the Tide for example. Let's say HT has it on sale for $4.99 and you have a .50 coupon or several. They ran out before you get there so you go to CS and get a rain check. I usually always get a quantity of 4 for my rain checks (I'll explain later). You don't have to pay anything upfront (the rain checks are free). Now let's say you had 2 coupons for Tide, I usually paperclip them to my rain check and save them in my Harris Teeter folder for use later. Now suppose you run into Dear Aunt Gertrude that gives you 2 more coupons for Tide (aren't you glad you got the quantity of 4). Then let's say Harris Teeter announces triples a couple of weeks later. You now take your rain check, your .50 coupons, and your Tide to the register where you now get it for 3.49 ea, instead of the 3.99 you would have gotten it for before. I have gotten several things for free that I would have paid for if I hadn't gotten the rain check.

Another reason rain checks are so great is it allows you to delay getting something you might not want to store right now. Let's say paper towels are on sale for really cheap, but you have 20 rolls and your husband is threatening to throw the next package you bring home away. Get a rain check so you can wait to purchase that item when you have more space.

Another reason you can get rain checks is if you don't have a coupon for something at the time it's on sale but you now there will be one soon. I recently did this with Cheer laundry detergent. HT had it on sale, I did not have a coupon, but I know Proctor and Gamble will come out with one soon and HT happened to be out of Cheer, so it worked out perfectly. I have a rain check for 4 and now all I need is a Cheer coupon. You can also email the company and ask for coupons for a particular item, or try trading on one of the trading forums at HCW for a coupon.

Just because you get the quantity of 4, does not mean you have to buy 4. I have bought 1 with a rain check that had 4. But once you redeem the rain check you don't get one for the difference.

To my knowledge rain checks do not expire. I have used some that are six months old before with no problem. I probably wouldn't hold onto one for over a year though.

Most all grocery stores have rain checks, in fact I have some for every store, so I can't think of one, except maybe Aldi that doesn't issue them. The ad will state if a rain check is unavailable for the item, sometimes blow out rock bottom deals will state "No rain checks" given.

BTW The best day to catch a grocery store out of something is Tuesday evening as that is the last day for grocery store sales.

Let me know your rain check tips!

See you at the sales!

Why I love The Grocery Game

All you new to couponing out there I have a huge tip for you. The first site you need to check out is The Grocery Game (GG). It was the first site I found out about from my dear friend and it is largely responsible for the couponing monster it created in me.

The site breaks everything down, so even if you have never used a coupon before in your life, you can do it. I noticed significant deals every week from the moment I first started my subscription with them. It took me about 3 months to build a large enough stockpile until I saw drastic cuts in my groceries budget. For our family of 3, I used to spend around $650 a month (and that was shopping Wal-Mart, Aldi and sales) for food, health and beauty aids, cleaning products and paper products. Now I spend less than $250 a month, in fact this month I have decided to cut it to $200 as I keep having money left over from the $250 budget. I met a lady (the one I referred to in another post, with the briefcase full of coupons) who has a family of four that has a budget of $100. I'm not that good, but aspiring!

GG is perfect for Moms that have busy schedules or that work, because all the hard research is done for you. They provide a list (it's even color coded so the best deals pop out easily) that details what is on sale:

They tell you what the item is, what the regular price is, the sale price, the store coupon, the manufacturer coupon and where to find it, what the final cost is and what the savings for the item is. You can check the items you want to purchase, get your coupons together, print out your list and head to the store with your list and coupons in hand. The main thing you need to remember is that the lists come out for the grocery stores on Sunday @8am, which means you only have a few days to get to the store before the sale ends on Tuesday. The other stores (drug stores) come out on Monday at 8am and you have until Saturday to make it there.

Of course there is a charge for their service. Since I work, I justified the cost involved as I ended up saving enough for the thing to pay for itself. My advice to you is to start collecting insert coupons for about 3 weeks before you sign up for your trial membership. Once you have a good
base of coupons saved up, sign up for the trial membership at GG. At the time I write this it's only $1 and you can access as many stores as you want. Use that trial period to see which stores work best for you and then before your trial subscription expires, go back in and select the stores you want to keep, as after the trial they will charge you for EACH store and to have all the stores, it can be quite pricey. Those of you that have subscriptions, which stores did you see you used the most? I would have to say for me it was HT, CVS, Bi-Lo and Lowes Foods and probably in that order. It will probably be different for each person, so I am curious to see.

You will probably get good enough to feel as if you don't need GG anymore. I finally cancelled my membership since we had to start cutting back on expenses. Truth is I can do this on my own, it just takes time. As soon as I did, I qualified based on referrals for several more weeks free. The Lord is so good! Truthfully I was not looking forward to letting it go as it's such a nice resource to have and with school starting back, my time will be limited.

For more information about how their site works check here. If you do decide to get a membership please tell them I sent you. My email address is Melsie7000@aol.com

Coupons on the big screen?

Check out this You tube movie trailer. Wonder if it will ever make it? I actually met the lady that was quoted as saying "We've been asked by the local food pantry to not donate anymore pickles, relish or enchilada sauce." She's a Charlottean that actually carries her coupons in a briefcase. I met her shortly after I started couponing and she was the one that told me about Hot Coupon World. She also shared many of her coupons. Look for her and her briefcase at the next triple!

Why CVS is my favorite store!

I love CVS for their extra care program. Everything you buy earns you extra care bucks (ECB).

Earn 2% back with every purchase in-store and online at CVS.com. ECB’s are rewards that you can earn at any CVS/pharmacy store or online at CVS.com when you use your Extra Care card. Earn 1 Extra Buck for every 2 prescriptions purchased in-store and online at CVS.com. To get an Extra Care card click here. You can get up to 2 Extra Care cards per household, but I only have one and find it easier to keep up with that.

Every 3 months your Extra Bucks that you earned from the 2% and prescriptions will print on your store register receipt, or visit CVS.com to print your Extra Bucks. Advertised Extra Bucks that you earn by making purchases of a product will print at the bottom of your receipt.

Once a month CVS comes out with a monthly booklet that has advertised items featuring ECB’s.

I always buy the items that are listed as free. If you have a coupon for these items you can make money! For example, Colgate total toothpaste (not pictured here) was once on sale for $2.49 and offering a $2 ECB with purchase. I happened to have $1.50 coupon., so I paid .99 for the toothpaste and got a $2 ECB that I could use on my next purchase.

Each week CVS has products listed in their ad that generate ECB’s. I always look at those products first. Be aware of limits offered many times you can buy more than one of things. The limit is listed in the ad. You'll notice the Kotex has a limit of 5 per customer while the stomach products has a limit of 1.

Rolling your ECB’s
The key concept behind making the most of your money at CVS is to roll their ECB’s into buying products that earn more ECB’s. For example let’s say your first week you spend out of pocket $30 but get $20 worth of ECB’s. The following week you will use those $20 worth of ECB’s to make your purchases on more products that generate ECB’s and just continue the cycle. That way you are spending their money and not yours. Just be aware that the ECB’s have expiration dates. Make sure you use them before they expire.

CRT’s

CRT’s are coupons that print on your register tape. These are specifically for you from CVS. You can use manufacturers coupons in conjunction with the CRT. They have expiration dates and they must be used with the Extra Care card that they were scanned with.
I highly recommend reading this for more information. It is also where I found the pictures to illustrate with.

What's on sale at Rite Aid (ends 7/12)?

Here is what I found at Rite Aid this week:

Infusium 23 Shampoo, Conditioner or Leave In 4.99-1.99SCR (single check rebate)-$3q=FREE
Clairol Herbal Essences Shampoo, Conditioner or Stylers 2/$5 -2SCR-$3/2 q = FREE
Gillette Venuse Vibrance, Embrace or Breeze Razor, 7.99-5SCR-$2 q= .99
Crest Toothpaste Expressions, Multi Care , Neat Squeeze, Whitening or Plus Scope 5.8-6.2oz or Pro Health 4.2 oz 2.49-1.74SCR-.75q=FREE

LypSyl .99 - $1SCR = FREE

This will come in handy as I have $20 worth of Rite Aid gift certificates from transferring prescriptions to use. I like to use their money to roll into other deals that I can send for another rebate.

A good baptist always shops the alcohol aisle!

Yes, you read that right. Let me let you in on a fantastic secret. Beer and wine companies offer many coupons and rebates on a variety of products to try to entice you to buy their alcohol. God Bless North Carolina as our state makes it illegal for those alcohol manufacturers to require you to purchase their alcohol to get the rebate. No I have not been drinking allow me to illustrate with some examples.

Recently Miller wanted to cash in on the Cinqo De Mayo celebration, so on their displays they had a tear pad offering a $25 rebate on a basket total of $75 or more. The rebate did not specify any particular products and no alcohol purchase was required, the only stipulation was that your total receipt was for $75. I'll admit I NEVER have a receipt that high anymore, but I stocked up on a meat sale which got me over the total. I sent my form and receipt in to the address listed and voila got a check about 5 weeks later for $25.

There is currently an offer form Coors for $10 rebate on chicken, barbecue supplies, paper plates, ice, water or soda totaling $20 or more. Most of the beer rebate tear pads I have found have been at Food Lion, but occasionally find them at Lowes Foods and HT.

The other marketing promotion out there are Wine Tags. These are coupons that hang around the neck of the bottle of wine for things like $2 off bread, or $1 off cheese or $2 off deli items. Again God Bless NC, you don't have to buy the wine. I have found most wine tags at Harris Teeter and the best time to find them is around the time of their monthly wine promotion. Sorry I can't remember when that is but I read that tip somewhere. Lowes also occasionally has Wine Tags.

If you find them, you may want to take a few extra to share with your friends or trade. I have found that the mail in rebates (MIR) are very popular in the trading forum on HCW. Just remember to be kind and leave some for others!

See you at the sales!
